I don't know how it's so easy for people to wash away everyone as "stupid" or "attention seeking."
I mean, if you're of the mind frame - as the vast majority is - that life is precious and shouldn't end at the slightest whim, why is it easier for people to count those individuals as stupid, rather than say "hey, wow... that's a very extreme deviation from what's normal. Maybe there's something wrong."

Or, with annorexia, people just don't get it. They think they're body-obsessed and if they just eat, all their problems will go away. No one takes the time to just sit back and say "wait... we need food to live, but these people try to live without it. ... Why?"
No one thinks twice. Just body-image problems and that's where it ends. No deeper meaning, no hidden twist to how their mind may work. Just there.

Especially with cutting does this apply. Infact, as far as I can tell, moreso than the others. No one views the extreme act of disecting your own body as something to worry about. So many people believe that cutters are only seeking attention, or are stupid.
One of the worst words would have to be 'emo.' Because of a few true idiots who associate fads on MTV with cool and go so far as to think it's cool and brag about it, you find an entire populous with the type-cast of emo.
But even those few kids who DO do it to brag... doesn't that speak of SOMETHING? It may not be as aweful as some things that happen around the world, but for these particular people, it's bad enough that they feel they have to hurt themselves to fit in.
But no on thinks like that.

Everyone's just an idiot. I guess it's easier to discount everything, easier not to learn and update what you know and just believe you're superior to so many people.

You know, I'm not a doctor. I can't say that everything I know is 100% correct, because I haven't gone through 5+ years of schooling to be allowed to.
But there's not a single doctor, educated in this field, who will discount a cutter as stupid or worthless.
But regardless of this information, there's still such a large amount of people who will think they're better than the elites of the field and say mental disorders are a sign of weakness.
Maybe not in so many words, butwill definately hint at it.

Ever think that cutting, annorexia, suicide, or many other things are not the problem in itself, but a symptom of a greater problem?
Mental disorder a weakness? Is the brain not a complex organ that we know very little about?
If the heart gets sick, do we call that person physically inferior, and leave them to die? if someone breaks a bone, do we laugh at them as say they're looking for attention?
If the brain - an organ - gets sick, do the functions it does not get sick as well? The brain obviously controls what we think and how we feel. If our brain is sick, is it not possible our thoughts and feelings are sick in accordance?

Food for thought.
It's much harder to accept that people will go through things some of us will never understand. It's always the harder 'path' to take to be the bigger person, to say "Maybe this isn't their fault, but they're acting as a result of a biologically induced impaired judgement."
